Djenné statue Mali 13th-15th century Terracotta H. 25 cm Superb statue depicting a gravid woman kneeling, her hips encircled by a cord and loincloth, her right arm folded over her belly, her left arm pressed to her chest and coming up to grasp her chin. Only the hand remains of this gesture, the forearm having disappeared. The ankles, wrists and neck are adorned with bracelets and necklaces. Reddish-brown terracotta with black firing nuances.
