Caryatid Luba seat, Democratic Republic of Congo - Lot 28
Caryatid Luba seat, Democratic Republic of Congo Wood H. 44 cm Provenance : - Former René Salanon collection (former curator of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs) - Former Armand Charles collection - Enchères Rive Gauche, Paris, 2009, no. 81 - Collection Mme F. Beautiful chef's stool carved in a light wood, the base classically composed of a kneeling female figure carrying the seat of the stool at arm's length. The supple, powerful limbs are masterfully articulated. The particularly beautiful, rhythmic belly scarification marks bear witness to carving in the ancient Luba tradition.
