Yoruba cup carrier, Nigeria Wood H. 47 cm Provenance : - Pace Primitive, New York - Private collection - Pierre Bergé & Associés, Brussels, 2008, no. 1130 - Collection Mme F. Very interesting cup-bearer depicting a kneeling female figure, probably an Orisha orante. The statue was probably placed on the altar of the divinity. The features are taut, the face finely treated and the headdress particularly refined. Superb patina showing extensive handling.
