Miniature Noh theater mask, O-Beshimi type, in brown and green lacquered wood. Cracks and missing lacquer and material. Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912). H. 12.5 cm. Provenance: acquired by the current owner's great-grandfather, General Etienne de VILLARET, then at the beginning of his career as Military Attaché to the Japanese Embassy in Tokyo, at the end of the 19th century, and in the family by descent.
