A horseman, China, 19th century A "cabriolet" fan composed of two sheets of silk-lined paper, painted in gouache with the arrival of a dignitary on a white horse protected by a parasol. 45 figures are depicted, all wearing silk embossed garments and ivory heads. The second leaf features a pheasant hen among roses. On the reverse, on a violet silk background, birds among roses frame a garden scene. The second leaf is illustrated with figures. Black lacquered bamboo frame with gold figures. Metal clasp and tassel. H.t. 26 cm/H.f. 8.4 cm/H.f. 3.5 cm (cuts, wear, small missing) In black lacquered bamboo box with gold decoration.
