Paris, Genève, Paschoud, 1815. In-8, contemporary bradel boards, smooth spine decorated with gilded fillets, black morocco title page - 362 pp. (misquoted 360). First edition. Louis Jurine (1751-1819) turned to medicine only after studying literature, which no doubt explains the fluidity of his style. He practiced in his native Geneva while conducting research, and is considered one of the eminent Swiss physicians of his time. Paris, l'Auteur, Crochard, 1816. 2 volumes in-8 bound in small-cornered fawn half-calf, ornate smooth spines, title (red) and tailpieces (green) - beginning of split at first tailbone of T 1, corners pierced - xxviii pp. (fx-title, title, greetings, preface), 400pp. ; [2 ff.], 461 pp. First edition of this work, which marks the beginning of a new approach to diagnosis through the study of organs diseased by 1°) mechanical lesions, 2°) organic transformations, productions or degenerations, 3°) irritations, atony or gangrene. Cruveilhier (1791-1874) was the first holder of the Chair of Pathological Anatomy at the Paris Faculty of Medicine. 5/ - Georget, M.- De la Physiologie du système nerveux, et spécialement du cerveau. Georget (1795-1828) was a famous alienist and pupil of Esquirol, to whom this work is dedicated. Deserves restoration. 6/ - Jolyclerc Nicolas. - Phytologie universelle, ou Histoire Naturelle et méthodique des plantes, de leurs propriétés, de leurs vertus et de leur culture... Gueffier, Lamy, Croullebois, Paris, An VII [1798]. 5 volumes in-8, bound in full contemporary seeded calf, very ornate smooth spines, title (red) and tomaison (black) - 4 headpieces faded, corners pierced - xvj, 496 pp. ; [2 ff.], 551 pp. ; [2 ff.], 525 pp. ; [2 ff.], 534 pp. ; [2 ff.], 504 pp. (including table and errata). Uncommon first edition. The dictionary of plants is preceded by 248 pages of prolegomena dealing with the structure of plants, Tournefort's system of classification into XXIV classes and Jussieu's system of classification into XV classes. In addition to a scientific description, each plant is given a detailed description of its properties, virtues, cultivation and preferred locations. Jolyclerc (1746-1817) was a French writer and botanist, and a professor of natural history. He was Linné's first translator. Some rare copies include plates (657).
