[Lenet, Pierre]. - Mémoires de Monsieur L*** Conseiller d'Ét - Lot 69
[Lenet, Pierre]. - Mémoires de Monsieur L*** Conseiller d'État: Contenant l'Histoire des Guerres civiles des années 1649 et suivantes; principalement celles de Guienne et autres Provinces. S. l. n., 1729. 2 volumes in-12, contemporary brown calf, ornate ribbed spines, red morocco title-pieces, chased edges, speckled edges, superficial epidermis and rubbing on boards, rubbed headbands and corners, paper slightly browned, rare stains - [4 ff.], 547 pp. ; [2 ff.], 581 pp. First edition. An essential source for the history of the Fronde. An ardent supporter of the Prince de Condé, Lenet attempted to raise Burgundy in Condé's favor after his arrest in 1650, and worked determinedly to strengthen Condé's relations with the Spanish monarchy against the young Louis XIV and Mazarin. In November 1651, he contributed to the signing of an alliance treaty between Philippe IV and Condé in Madrid. After the defeat of the Princes' party, he went into exile in Flanders and Spain. On his return to France, he decided to write a memoir based on the notes he had taken throughout his Fronde period. Provenance: Château de Marcellus
