Gessner, Conrad. - Historia plantarum et vires ex Dioscoride, Paulo Aegineta, Theophrasto, Plinio, rece[n]tioribus Graecis, juxta elementorum ordinem... Paris, Joannes Lodoscus Tiletanus, 1541. Small in-8 bound in full cherry morocco imitating glazed calf (19th century). Boards decorated with a triple frame of gilt fillets, smooth spine decorated and titled, gilt edges, roulette on the edges repeated inside - [First leaf missing (title on recto and first page of the mailing on verso)], [7 ff. ,3 pp. of mailing and 11 pp. of index], 261 pp., [1 f. d'achevé d'imprimer] - The first 7 leaves have been bound at the end of the work (after the achevé). Second edition, published the same year as the E.O., of the first botanical treatise by the great Swiss scientist Conrad Gessner (1516-1565), written at the age of 25 (Garrison Morton no. 1807, which cites only this Paris edition). The E.O. was edited by Robert Wynter in Basle.
