MU'PO BAMILEKE STATUETTE, Bamoun, West Cameroon Wood with dark brown-black patina, hair. H. 17 cm Mu'po effigy with full lines, alternating roundness of the bust and head with sharp-edged lines on the limbs and face. With a magical-religious function, this type of object was used by members of the Kun'ngan society, but was also intended to protect crops, aid in fruitful hunting, worn by pregnant women as a talisman, or to protect warriors.
