Joan Llorens Gardy, known as Joan Gardy Artigas, is the son of Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso's close friend, the famous ceramist Josep Llorens Artigas (1892-1980). A student at the École du Louvre and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he met Alberto Giacometti and began a twenty-year collaboration with Joan Miro. He
returns to Spain, succeeding his father as the leading Spanish ceramist. He creates large-scale architectural sculptures, fountains and ceramic murals for Harvard University in the USA, the Maeght Foundation in Saint Paul de Vence and sculpture gardens in London and Tokyo. In 1989, he created the Artigas Foundation, which welcomes numerous artists in residence.
