Guy de Rougemont (1935-2021) - Lot 208
Guy de Rougemont (1935-2021) Totem Painted PVC H. 186.5 cm, resting on a painted wooden base H. 7 cm A multi-disciplinary artist, Guy de Rougemont is a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, elected to the painting section in 1997. A key figure in the artistic life of the second half of the 20th century, Guy de Rougemont has never ceased to blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture. He exhibited at the Biennale de Paris Biennale from 1965 onwards, and created a number of "1% artistic" monuments in urban spaces. Totems are a strong, recurring symbol in his work. He explores this theme in a variety of dimensions, from monumental ones such as the one on Place Albert-Thomas in Villeurbanne, which has become an emblem of the city, to more Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris (inv. AMS 555). Related literature : -Jérôme Bindé, Rougement: 1962-1982, Paris, Éd. Du Regard, 1982.
