Serge Ponomarew (1911-1984) Eve Statuette in patinated terra cotta Signed "S. Ponomarew" and dated "1949". H. 34 cm Originally from Minsk, Serge Ponomarew's family was forced by the war to move to Wilno in Lithuania, where they attended the École des Beaux-arts. From 1932 to 1935, the young artist studied in Paris, frequenting the studios of Henri Bouchard, Raoul Lamourdedieu and Marcel Gaumont. In 1941, back in the French capital, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. He devoted himself to sculpture until the late 1950s.
