Armand Petersen (1891-1969) - Lot 145
Armand Petersen (1891-1969) Sheep head Patinated terracotta Signed "A. PETERSEN" on the right of the neck H. 12 cm, on a blackened wooden base H. 8 cm After a brief stay in Paris in 1914, Armand Petersen entered the studio of sculptor Bêla Markup in Budapest. Here, in addition to learning to model, he received perhaps the most important lesson for his future creation: the discovery of animal art and the observation of live models in the Hungarian capital's zoological park. He never ceased to perfect his work, always striving for elegance and purity of line. Ornamentation is eschewed in order to render ever more forcefully anatomical truth, as well as the beauty of movement and attitude.
