Georges Wasterlain (1889-1963) Miner's mask Bronze with brown patina Signed "WASTERLAIN H. 28.5 cm, on a base H. 9 cm Born into a modest Belgian family, Georges Wasterlain worked as a miner before embarking on a self-taught career as a painter and sculptor. Influenced by the social realism of Constantin Meunier, he created figures of workers, including a statue of a miner housed at Charleroi town hall.
