Georges Wasterlain (1889-1963) 1963) Miner's bust Patinated terra cotta Signed "WASTERLAIN" below left shoulder H. 44 cm, resting on a wooden base H. 2 cm Born into a modest Belgian family, Georges Wasterlain worked as a miner before embarking on a self-taught career as a painter and sculptor. Influenced by the social realism of Constantin Meunier, he created figures of workers, including a statue of a miner housed at Charleroi town hall.
