Planquette H. 75 cm For the plaster L'esprit et la matière, Marseille-born Auguste Henri Carli, a pupil of Jules Cavelier and Ernest Barrias, was awarded a first-class medal at the 1902 Salon des Artistes Français. He donated this first version to his hometown museum, and presented a monumental marble version commissioned by the city of Clermont-Ferrand at the 1911 Salon.
