Along with Minerva and Venus, the figure of Juno is part of a group forming one of the classically inspired nine-light candelabra made to adorn the mantelpiece of the Duc de Montpensier around 1840. Around 1865, Antoine-Louis Barye made Juno an independent work. The model was later published by the Peyrol foundry. Hippolythe Peyrol was first a pupil of Barye, then a publisher, in particular for Rosa and Isidore Bonheur.
