Alain LEMOSSE (1944-2021) - Lot 263
Alain LEMOSSE (1944-2021) Untitled, 1976 Box-assembly of pieces of wood, pins and wires stretched over a wooden support, mounted in a Plexiglas box, signed and dated September 24, 1976 on the wooden base. Minor chips to the Plexiglas. 30 x 120.5 x 10 cm Alain Lemosse, a discreet and elusive creator, lived in Charente, where he died in 2021. He had a vast workshop, enabling him to tackle projects ranging from the infinitely small to the gigantic. The series of boxes we present illustrate one facet of his minimalist work, created with salvaged or accidental materials. Theaters of the derisory, scholarly showcases for a cabinet of curiosities for the very curious, the mystery of his fragile constructions can also be summed up by the artist's opening words, "the problem is space". The poetry of this sculptor's assemblages, reminiscent of Yolande Fièvre's montages, encourages imaginative introspection, is also a salutary counterpoint to all the gaudy, seductive demonstrations of the art of his time.
