Alain LEMOSSE (1944-2021) - Lot 261
Alain LEMOSSE (1944-2021)
Untitled, 1974
Box-assemblage of pieces of wood and cardboard pinned to a wooden frame, bottom and front protected by two sheets of Plexiglas, signed, dated 31.3.74 and April 1, 1974 and referenced on a label affixed to the lower right.
21 x 53 x 11 cm
Alain Lemosse, a discreet and evasive creator, lived in Charente, where he died in 2021. He had a vast workshop, enabling him to tackle projects ranging from the infinitely small to the gigantic.
The series of boxes we present illustrate one facet of his minimalist work, created with salvaged or accidental materials.
Theaters of the derisory, scholarly showcases for a cabinet of curiosities for the very curious, the mystery of his fragile constructions can also be summed up by the artist's opening words,
"the problem is space". The poetry of this sculptor's assemblages, reminiscent of Yolande Fièvre's montages, encourages imaginative introspection,
is also a salutary counterpoint to all the gaudy, seductive demonstrations of the art of his time.
