This stunning collection of Dado's drawings comes from two prestigious collections, most notably that of Daniel Cordier (1920-2020).
The gallerist collector was fascinated by the artist as soon as he arrived in Paris from Belgrade in 1956,
He marveled at these otherworldly drawings, combining traumatized childhood reminiscence and personal mythology,
with no connection to the Parisian scene of the time. Close to Dubuffet and Réquichot on his arrival in France,
Dado's work evolves with their company, in a monstrous virtuosity that cultivates like no other the propensity
to make the living cohabit with the inanimate, to unearth beauty in horror or horror in beauty.
Daniel Cordier wrote of him in the 1964 exhibition catalog that concluded his career as a gallery owner in Paris:
"It seems that human misery has taken refuge in his arms, transforming this frail, adolescent-looking man into a colossal prophet of pity and mercy.
prophet of pity and horror". This "new humanization" would continue for six decades, not without some
and facetious humor, as in our three compositions from 1999.
