Gabriel Jean Antoine DAVIOUD (Paris 1824-1881) Two designs for water tower fountains Chandelier project Pen and black ink, watercolor. Signed Davioud. 43.5 x 28.5 cm Eight designs for architectural elements or church decorations. Black pencil, pen and ink. Various formats. Architect Gabriel Davioud, a representative of Second Empire eclecticism, was a close friend of Baron Haussmann. In particular, he designed Paris's street furniture, including the famous "Davioud benches", which left their mark on Paris for several generations. In 1851, he was commissioned to survey around 100 of the 250 houses to be demolished. His sketchbooks are an important record of the vanished Paris of the 18th and 19th centuries.
