Jean Lubin VAUZELLE (Angerville la Gâte 1776-Paris 1839) Marie-Antoinette in the Temple Prison Pen and black ink, watercolor. Signed lower right Vauzelle Dell. 18 x 15 cm PROVENANCE: collection of Madame Gabriel Delessert, née Valentine de la Borde; given to E. Eucénée (?); anonymous sale, Paris, Hôtel Drouot, October 27, 2017, no. 63, reproduced. A student of Hubert Robert and Jean-Charles Nicaise Perrin, Vauzelle exhibited at the Salon until 1837. He showed a particular interest in architecture. A close friend of Alexandre Lenoir, he designed the various rooms of the Musée des Monuments Français. In 1800, he accompanied the Comte de Laborde on a trip to Spain. The drawings he brought back were published in Voyage pittoresque en Espagne, 1806.
