Damier, 2000, model listed under no. 56, p. 192. Gabriel Coquelin trained in his father Eugène Coquelin's sculpture workshop. He worked with numerous artists to create war memorials. In 1931, he took part in Alfred Janniot's bas-reliefs for the façade of the former Musée des Colonies. Gabriel Coquelin is passionate about the intimate representation of the female nude, which he models spontaneously using clay applied in small strokes. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français, the Salons des Indépendants and the Salons d'Automne.
