Ferdinand Parpan (1902-2004) - Lot 216
Ferdinand Parpan (1902-2004) Pelican Polychromed bronze Signed "F. PARPAN" on the terrace H. 11 cm Related literature -Jean-Charles Hachet, Ferdinand Parpan: l'intuition des formes, Paris, Somogy éd. D'art, 2001 ; -Ferdinand Parpan: sculptures animalières, cat. exp. Mont-de-Marsan, Musée Despiau-Wlérick, Mont-de-Marsan, Musée Despiau-Wlérick, 1993; -Jean-Jacques Lévêque, Ferdinand Parpan sculpteur, Paris, Les Ed. de l'Amateur, 1989. Through the simplification of form and movement, Ferdinand Parpan sought to convey the life and character of the animals he observed at the Vincennes zoo. Introduced to sculpture in the workshop of his father, an ornamental woodcarver, he continued his training with two master engravers, where he discovered modeling. Although living in Paris, Parpan concentrated on his work, trying to "converse with materials", and exhibited little.
