Roger Godchaux (1878-1958) Derby du Midi, 1944 Bronze with green-brown patina. Signed "Roger Godchaux", bears the founder's mark "Susse Frs Eds Paris. " and the words "Cire Perdue. " Titled "Derby du Midi / 1944" in a cartouche on the black Belgian marble base. Total height 23 cm L. 23 cm Roger Godchaux was a pupil of Jules Adler and then Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the Jury of the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes awarded him the silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life depicting the animal in all its observed attitudes.
