JUG CARRIER. This seated figure with broad shoulders carries a jug on his left shoulder. He is adorned with earrings and a headdress with a central protuberance. Scarifications decorate his right shoulder. Brown terracotta with reddish-brown slip with traces of manganese oxide. Colima culture, Preclassic period, Mexico, 100 BC - 250 AD. H. 48.5 L. 27.5 Thickness 24.5 cm Broken and reattached with restoration. PROVENANCE: former collection of Mr. X, acquired in the 1970s.
