17th century FLEMISH school, follower of Gerard SEGHERS The denial of Saint Peter Canvas. 108 x 175,5 cm Black and gilt molded wood frame, Italian work of the 17th century. PROVENANCE: Mâcon, Red collection (according to tradition the painting comes from the Col collection in the castle of Fromenteau in the Allier. BIBLIOGRAPHY : L. This painting is a variant, in a different framing, of the Denial of St. Peter depicted in Willem van Haecht's painting The Workshop of Apelles (The Hague, Mauritshuis). A Denial of St. Peter by Gerard Seghers is preserved in Raleigh, North Carolina Museum of Art (canvas 157.5 x 227.7 cm) cf. Gerard Seghers, Un peintre flamand entre maniérisme et caravagisme, Musée des beaux-arts de Valenciennes, 2011, fig. 11 p.39.
