Rousseau, J-J. - Discours sur l'origine et les fondemens de - Lot 91
Rousseau, J-J. - Discours sur l'origine et les fondemens de l'inégalité parmi les hommes. Amsterdam, Marc Michel Rey, 1755. In-8, fawn calf, triple gilt fillet on the boards, smooth spine decorated, filleted edges, fine inner lace and gilt edges, rare foxing - LXX pp, [1 f.], 262 pp, frontispiece, vignette to the title and headband to the dedication. Counterfeit of the original edition with the same frontispiece but not signed and the legend in larger characters, the errors corrected and without errata. The second Discourse presented by Rousseau to the Academy of Dijon in response to the question "What is the source of the inequality of conditions among men; whether it is authorized by natural law?" Here Rousseau found an opportunity to express his position on a subject that was stirring most keenly in his time. Pleasant copy.
