Amsterdam, Jean-Frederic Bernard, 1730. 6 volumes in-12, half tan basane, smooth spines decorated with gilded fillets, orange and turquoise blue morocco title-pieces, speckled edges, marginal restoration to three leaves, heraldic ex-libris with a count's crown on the verso of all titles - [1 f.1 f.], 259 pp; [1 f.], 288 pp; [1 f.], 226 pp; [1 f.], 222 pp; [1 f.], 220 pp; [1 p.], [266 pp]. Counterfeit of the original edition at the same date and address. The title finials and pagination are different. First cousin of Louis XIV, the richest heiress in Europe, the Grande Mademoiselle refused to marry, claimed to manage her fortune alone, took advantage of the troubles of the Fronde to fight, even shooting at the king's troops. The king sent her to the provinces to meditate for a few years and it was in her castle of Saint-Fargeau in Burgundy that she began to write her memoirs.
