Wifredo LAM, ed. ARTCURIAL - Yemaya pendant in 18K yellow gold 750‰ depicting an owl-headed figure. Fixed clasp on the back. French work, workshop hallmark, attributed to STRAUSS, ALLARD & MEYER. Signed and numbered 4/30. H. 5 cm Weight 57,40 g Cuban painter of international fame, Wifredo Lam (1902-1982) is in the vanguard of a mixed-race painting combining Western modernism and African and Caribbean symbolism. He was inspired by the Cubist, Surrealist and CoBrA movements. Close to Aimé Césaire, he is at the origin of an intimate, unique and original language. The Strauss, Allard & Meyer workshop, renowned for its artistic creations and its production of boxes and vanity cases, is known for having worked for René Boivin, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.
