The most famous work of the Italian poet A. Tassoni (1565-1635). He claimed that it was a youthful work, but it seems to have been written in his prime. This long poem tells the conflict that opposed Modena and Bologna for the possession of a vulgar bucket of wood! It is worth by the talent of the poet who is said to have possessed better than any other in Italy the subtleties of the language and the art of the versification. He makes of this small incident a work at the same time heroic and badinage, lively, piquant with a touch of eroticism. Tassoni managed to have it printed only in 1622 in Paris but there were then many editions of which this one is enhanced by the beautiful engravings of Gravelot, Marilier and Huet. A nice copy from the library of Madame de La Borde with her bookplate.
