Mesnier, 1760. 2 volumes in-4 bound in full red glazed calf with boards decorated in the duseuil style (exterior roulette lined with a stamped roulette and inside gilt fillet lined with a stamped roulette) with central stamped diamond pattern, decorated smooth spines, name of the owner "Cadeot" stamped on the tail of the spine and repeated by hand on the endpapers, gilt framing on the spine flaps, corners of the spine flaps decorated with a gilt scroll, spotted edges - worm work in the upper margin of the last 71 ff. of volume 1 and the first 9 ff. of volume 2 - [4 ff.], XLII, [2], 766 pp. ; [2], XII, 796 pp. The work is divided into 8 parts: Of the officers of the admiralty and their jurisdiction - Of the people and the ships of the sea - Of the maritime contracts - Of the police of the ports, coasts, roadsteads and shores of the sea - Of the fishing which is done at sea. There are also numerous articles on the slave trade, including the 1685 Black Code, and a large amount of analytical material in the table of contents. This edition of the "Nouveaux commentaires" by René-Josué Valin (La Rochelle 1695-1765) was a great success because of its clarity and erudition. Original edition
