Necker, M.- De l'Administration des Finances de la France. S - Lot 217
Necker, M.- De l'Administration des Finances de la France. S.l., 1784. 3 volumes in 12, bound in contemporary marbled half calf, spines smoothly decorated, red edges, tiny wormholes on the spine of the 3rd volume - VI, cxxxij, 268 pp. with a frontispiece portrait, a folding table; VI, 400 pp.; viij, 364 pp. Handwritten bookplate on each title. The original edition appeared the same year in in-8 format and was followed almost in quick succession by a dozen other in-8 or in-12 format editions which testify to the phenomenal success of this work. Necker, a skilled banker who had been Director General of Finance for Louis XVI from 1776 to 1781, was in the middle of a desert when he began to write this work. He exposes both the qualities that he considers necessary for the head of the administration of Finance but he also considers, in a clear and orderly way, all the problems and techniques related to public Finance. A good copy.
