[Bacheville, Barthélémy]. - Travels of the Bacheville brothe - Lot 195
[Bacheville, Barthélémy]. - Travels of the Bacheville brothers in Europe and Asia after their conviction by the provost court of the Rhone in 1816. Paris, chez l'auteur et chez Corréard, Ponthieu, 1822. 1 vol. in-8, half calf - Small wear on all edges, foxing - VIII, 401 pp., portrait. - Curious journey which is rather the escape of two brothers, one of them condemned to death in absentia by the provost court of the Rhone, for having been soldiers of the empire and especially companions of exile of Napoleon I in Elba. Wrongly accused of having wanted to kill a gendarme, Barthélémy Bacheville, accompanied by his brother Antoine, had to flee across Europe to Constantinople and Syria before being cleared by the royal court of Lyon in 1819. But this expedition cost Antoine his life, who died in Syria.
