Genet, Jean. - Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs. Monte Carlo, Aux Dépen - Lot 289
Genet, Jean. - Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs. Monte Carlo, Aux Dépens d'un Amateur, [1943]. In-4, bradel binding in unbleached cloth, author and title in black on the spine - false title and second endpaper browned, otherwise a good copy - 265 pp, [1f., justification]. Edition of 350 copies, this one n° 48. First edition. Beautiful sending in red pencil "to Evelyne Carral who will be if she wants, the little poisoner of the "Castilian day" and to Henri Vidal who understood the meaning of carpets, my regards, Jean Genet". Henri Vidal (1919-1959) is an actor who will become in 1950 the husband of Michèle Morgan. Discovered by Cocteau and then by Sartre, Genet is the "pariah" of post-war French literature. His first novel "Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs" written in the Fresnes prison in 1942 was published for the first time in December 1943 by Paul Morihien who was Jean Cocteau's secretary.
