Gueffier, Lamy, Croullebois, Paris, An VII [1798]. 5 volumes in-8, bound in full contemporary seeded calf, very ornate smooth spines, title-pieces (red) and tomaison (black) - 4 headpieces faded, corners pierced - xvj, 496 pp. ; [2 ff.], 551 pp. ; [2 ff.], 525 pp. ; [2 ff.], 534 pp. ; [2 ff.], 504 pp. (including the table and errata). Original edition, not very common. The dictionary of plants is preceded by 248 pages of prolegomena dealing with the structure of plants, the classification system of Tournefort in XXIV classes and that of Jussieu in XV classes. Each plant, in addition to its scientific description, benefits from a complement on its properties, its virtues, its culture and the places of predilection where one finds it. Jolyclerc (1746-1817) is a French writer and botanist who was a professor of natural history. He was the first translator of Linné. Some rare copies include plates (657).
