Baltasar Lobo (1910-1993) Raised arms Model created in 1970 Bronze with light brown patina Signed "Lobo" and numbered "2/8 Bears the founder's mark "L Thinot Fdr Paris H. 24 cm The son of a stonemason, Lobo studied at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid where he discovered the work of Picasso, Miró and Gargallo. In 1939 he fled Franco's regime. After many adventures, the artist, penniless, went to Paris where he met Picasso. Picasso supported him and found him a studio. He then became friends with Henri Laurens. Lobo then turned to a simplification of forms in the tradition of Brancusi, Arp and Moore. His work, rewarded by many prizes, is represented in the greatest museums of modern art.
