Carlo Sarrabezolles (1888-1971) Centaur and mermaid About 1951-1952 Pair of stone sculptures Signed " C. SARRABEZOLLES ". H. 136 cm each Made in pendant, these two figures of a Siren and a Centaur in stone sculpted in the round were commissioned to the sculptor Carlo Sarrabezolles by a private collector around 1951-1952. We know of studies in plaster and bronzes made by the Coubertin foundry in 2000. Carlo Sarrebezolles trained at the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse and then in Paris. The period between the wars was very prolific for the artist, he joined the Ateliers de l'Art Sacré, exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français and participated in several international exhibitions such as the Decorative Arts Exhibition in 1925, the Arts et Techniques Exhibition in 1937 and the International Exhibition in New York in 1939. It was during this period, in 1927, that Sarrabezolles developed the technique of direct carving in concrete that he applied to the realization of numerous sculpted decorations.
