Roger Godchaux (1878-1958) Derby du Midi, 1944 Bronze with a brown-green patina. Signed "Roger Godchaux" and bears the founder's mark "Susse Frs Eds Paris. " and the mention " Cire Perdue. " Titled " Derby du Midi / 1944 " in a cartouche on the black marble base of Belgium H. total 23 cm L. 23 cm Roger Godchaux was a student of Jules Adler and then of Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the Jury of the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes awarded him a silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life representing the animal in all the observed attitudes.
