Georges Lavroff (1895-1991) Polar bear Circa 1930 Bronze with gunmetal patina Signed " G.Lavroff ", on the left rear paw H. 15.8 x L. 41 cm, on a marble base Originally from Siberia, George Lavroff studied medicine and took drawing and painting classes at the Tomsk Artists' Society until 1917. In 1922, he joined the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia and exhibited in Moscow. He continued his artistic training in Paris between 1927 and 1935 and exhibited animal subjects in bronze and ceramics at the Salon d'Automne and Salon des Indépendants. On his return to Moscow, he was appointed official artist.
