Paul-François Berthoud (1870-1939) Portrait of an elegant woman Marble and gilt bronze bust Signed " BERTHOUD ". H. 45 cm This bust of a young woman is part of the Art Nouveau style work of Paul-François Berthoud. Trained by sculptors Emmanuel Fontaine and Antonin Larroux, he was one of the founders of the Salon d'automne. In 1900, fascinated by the performing arts and in particular the theater, Berthoud enjoyed great success with his terracotta bust of Sarah Bernhardt (Clermont-Ferrand, Musée d'art Roger-Quilliot, inv. 984.1.101).
