Pierre-Nicolas Tourgueneff (1853-1912) English horse Bronze with brown patina Signed " Pierre Tourgueneff " on the terrace H. 47.5 cm, terrace 35.7 x 10.5 cm Born into a Russian family who settled in Paris in 1834, Pierre Tourgueneff trained in animal sculpture in the workshop of Emmanuel Frémiet. Nourished by his passion for horses, the sculptor placed the horse at the center of his work. He made his debut at the Universal Exhibition of 1880 by presenting Visapour, a Russian stallion, and then exhibited regularly in various salons and several universal exhibitions in France and abroad until 1911.
