Félix Desruelles (1865-1943) Britannia Bronze with green patina Signed " F. Desruelles " Titled " BRITANNIA Bears the founder's stamp " CIRE PERDUE LE- BLANC BARBEDIENNE ", the mentions " 2nd Proof " and " BRONZE H. 82 cm This is the bronze reduction of the Bri- tannia monument commissioned in 1935 by the Patriotic Societies of London and Paris and the Boulonnais War Veterans. Initially conceived in bronze by the sculptor Pierre Stenne, the realization of the monument was entrusted to Félix Desruelles who executed it in stone. Inaugurated in 1938 to pay tribute to the English soldiers who landed in Boulogne-sur-Mer during the First World War, the monument was destroyed in 1940 by the German armies.
