MAROTTE KEBE KEBE KUYU, Democratic Republic of Congo Medium-hard wood with brown patina, kaolin, pigments, accidents. H. 53 cm Kebe kebe marotte brandished during djo festivities, or snake worship. It is adorned with a face characteristic of the style, the almond-shaped eyes sculpted in slight relief, on either side of a schematic nose. The mouth, with the same stretched shape as the eyes, opens onto teeth that are partly cut into points. The headdress, streaked with fine strands, is made of a double bun in a shell. Nice age.
