Alexander CALDER (1898-1976) - Lot 80
Alexander CALDER (1898-1976) Untitled, 1971 Gouache and ink on paper, dedicated to Jean-Pierre and Yvette, signed and dated. 108,5 x 74 cm PROVENANCE : - given by the artist to Jean-Pierre Besnard ; - passed down through the family since then. Settled in Indre-et-Loire since his return from the United States in 1955, Calder produced a large number of mobiles, often monumental, in the years 1965-370, and continued his work on balance and spatial relationships. Our gouache is part of this period of research into the relationship of forces between forms and primary colors. Executed in 1971, it bears witness to the purity of form in Alexander Calder's last works on paper. Belonging to the series devoted to balloons19s taking flight, these minimalist and joyfully colored gouaches are part of his work as a sculptor.
