Marcel DAMBOISE (1903-1992) - Lot 273
Marcel DAMBOISE (1903-1992) Medal of Jeanne Sicard, small size, 1963 Proof in bronze Signed and dated (lower right) : Damboise 1963 D. 6,7 cm MD S-064Pk-01 Provenance: Artist's studio, by descent The sculptor executed a bust of Jeanne Sicard (today only known by an old photograph), plaster medallions and a small bronze medal (of which several copies are known). Marcel Damboise met Jeanne Sicard (1913-1962) through Albert and Francine Camus. The latter was a childhood friend of Jeanne and Marguerite Dobrenn, as they were all three from Oran. Jeanne Sicard participated in the cultural movement of the Popular Front and joined the Communist Party. She died in a car accident in 1962 and this portrait is a tribute by the sculptor to the deceased.
