MD-S-031P-00b Provenance: Artist's studio, by descent The two artists met in 1934 in Algiers, during an exhibition at the Villa Abd-el-Tif: Damboise, aged 31, exhibited there as a boarder; Camus, aged 21, went there as an art critic for a newspaper. A friendship develops between them, nourished by the love of the Greeks. It continues until the fatal accident of the writer in 1960. After Camus' death, Damboise created medallions and a bust to celebrate his memory. One of the medallions, made of stone, adorns a monument in honor of Camus erected in Villeblin in the Yonne, the commune where his sudden death occurred.
