Yuri KUPER (born 1940) - Lot 118
Yuri KUPER (born 1940) Lock n°2, 1988 Mixed media on Fresson photographic print mounted on canvas, signed and dated lower right. 84 x 64 cm EXHIBITION: Yuri Kuper, Galerie Rambert, Paris, 1988, reproduced on the cover of the exhibition catalog. "...What is left, when everything has been consumed, is dead of many deaths, if not a few incorruptible images, isolated, lost in the mists of memory? Yuri Kuper proceeds in the manner of time: he inexorably flees things under layers of tenuous particles, dusty veils, which one dares not disturb and which give the impression of a great distance, like objects that appear in a dream: the method states the purpose. And he proceeds in photography in the same way as in painting, deafening the contrasts, blunting the contours, recreating the material, by means of glazes, smears, stains, "sweeps" of acrylic and watercolor; a single Fresson print (with unalterable charcoal) replaces the drawing transferred to canvas. Strangely enough, Yuri also reconnects with the heroic era of photography, that of the pre-movement era, whose first subjects were similar still lifes; we think we find Talbot's latent images, for example, which Valery compared to the emergence of a perfect verse out of the "inner language..." Serge Bramly (excerpt from the catalog of the exhibition Galerie Rambert.
