Marcel Damboise (1903-1992) - Lot 168
Marcel Damboise (1903-1992) Woman turning around (small size), 1942-1945 Studio plaster Signed (on the terrace behind) : Damboise 46 x 16 x 11.5 cm Provenance: Artist's studio, by descent La Femme se retournant exists in a large version (H. 69,5 cm) and in a small version (H. 43 cm). The latter was the subject of a bronze edition, of which several copies are located in private collections. "Did Damboise, who is a Provençal, keep the imprint of the Venus of Arles? His statues are designed for marble. They seem made to live in the sun. They betray neither trouble nor anxiety. They spread sensations of joy. They prolong in time the art of Roman Gaul, which was in Provence, an art less Italian than Greek. Waldemar George in Jeunes sculpteurs français, Paul Dupond, 1946, p. 34.
