Sergio Storel (1926-2017) Man's back, 1969 Carved wood Signed and dated on the back lower left: "Storel 69 90 x 30 x 10 cm Painter, poet and sculptor, Sergio Storel, born in Italy, studied drawing in Zurich in 1946 and 1947. His first exhibitions of paintings and sculptures in cement and metal took place in Treviso before he moved to Paris in 1958. In Montparnasse, he met the artists Severini, discovered the works of Giacometti, Gonzalès and Zadkine. He exhibited regularly at the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture. Dos d'homme is part of the Torsos series, a central theme in the work of Sergio Storel, listed under no. 160, p.223 of the artist's catalog raisonné. Several retrospectives have been devoted to him, notably at the Constant Permeke Museum in Belgium in 2006 and at Chartres in 2011.
